Colorado - Pikes Peak

One hour (18 miles) to the summit - 14,000 feet up!
real women don't need guard rails...
mountain goats?? about 5 miles from the top
taking pictures with one hand, driving with the other
there is an oxygen bar at the summit - very hard to breath here
if you look close you can see the "Garden of the Gods"

The haze hanging in the air is from California wild fires
no vegetation this high up
a crumbly edge and straight down

the long and winding road....back down as the sun sets
evening in Colorado Springs
Andy and Steve share this adventure with me....a great experience with two new friends

Garden of the Gods - Colorado Springs, CO

Just after a thunder storm...

It's hard to capture the essense of this place with pictures. This is an extrodinary setting, unlike any I've ever seen. I climbed around until I found this spot to read, write and watch the sunset.

Windsor or Half Windsor?

Easter morning - Stacy looks up how to tie a tie on the Internet.

Scott went to church without the tie,
but they had fun trying.

New puppy

We were met at the gate by 8 Tibetan Terrier puppies at Dolbrooks kennels on Saturday.

It was a strange greeting as they were all so quiet. No barking...
The Tibetan terrier is a calm, quiet, trusting breed and sometimes a bit shy.

Stacy meets her match with the only little girl in the litter.

After we spent time with each pup, we were still drawn to the little female puppy.

We are told she is curious and mischievous.

Stacy pets the Mom of this litter.

In their native Tibet, these little dogs have always lived close to people,
Tibetan Terriers are called Little People.

They were raised in the monasteries and were never sold but were sometimes given to a visiting dignitary or to someone who had done the lamas a favor; this association with the monasteries gave them the name Holy Dog of Tibet. They also became known as the Good Luck Dog or Luck Bringer as they were also given to travellers embarking on dangerous journeys. The recipient’s safety was thus ensured as no one would harm anyone fortunate enough to have been given a Tibetan Terrier. The present Dalai Lama took his Tibetan Terrier, "Senge," with him when he was forced to leave Tibet. There is also evidence that these terriers were used to retrieve articles that tumbled down the steep rocky mountains into crevices.

Our new puppy got a bath and was sent home with us.

She was born 11-02-05

She will grow up to be about 20 lbs

Aaliyah is posing with the new puppy

Mary Ann stopped in to meet the puppy and help us name her.

Aaliyah and ?? We still don't have a name picked out!

Aaliyah says 'Look, we're dancing!'

This puppy has been around small childen and took everything
Aaliyah dished out and came back wanting more. The puppy
followed her around wagging her tail and waiting for more attention.

Mary Ann and Lily take a nap after all the playing.

After a phone call to Lillian we decided on the name Lily for the new puppy.
Lillian said "Someone should be named after me" and laughed.
Lily and Lillian will meet today - more later.

Lily slept in her crate and cried/barked for an hour before she went to sleep.
She was then quiet for 6 hours! Not too bad for the first night!

By the way, the old man Dusty is handling the new addition just fine.
He's actually some what indifferent.

Hiking in Eldorado Springs, CO

Looking back down the path...

Hiking upward and westward in the area of South Boulder and Bear Peaks.
Scott takes a break on the step, while Jay checks out the path ahead.

The air is a little thinner, but it's a beautiful view from inside the pine trees looking out.

Aspen Lodge in Estes Park, CO
Great food and beautiful scenery!
Nativity scene in downtown Estes Park
Sunset on Christmas Eve in Estes Park
We saw the big star on the mountain light up as the sun set in Estes Park
Elk are grazing near the road and just as curious about us as we were about them.

Stacy and Scott out walking around

Single?

The old driver at the airport park-n-ride shouted "are you single?" as I stepped out of my car. Stunned, I looked around with that 'who me?' expression on my face. Is it starting to show, I wondered? I'm suddenly lost in my own thoughts thinking about what the world sees when they look at me. It was only 5:00 a.m. I hadn't yet had my first cup of coffee and I'm not exactly use to such an affront. Apparently, I didn't respond quick enough as he yelled it again. "Ma'am, are you single?" With an affirmative reply from me, he then said "okay, I'll take you." Great! He'll take me. Thank God, I respond to him. He paused for just a second and looked up at me over the top of his glasses. Then in a very kindly, grandfatherly manner he gave me his business card with the information as to how to retreive my car upon my return, explaining to me exactly what I needed to do step by step. I think he felt sorry for me.

Traveling three days before Christmas requires patience, a sense of humor and a good book. The airport was a loud, jarring, angry, harried mob scene. It all sort of swirled around me and I let the stream of people just carry me along with them. It was kind of fun!

Rocky Mountain Christmas!

I'm headed out in a few minutes to the airport. The contents for my suitcase still in piles on the table, the last of which just came out of the dryer. I have four white turtleneck taking up the bulk of my space. Not identical. Each has their own level of warmth and comfort and a varying degree of wear and tear. The thin, old favorite that has been washed a thousand times; the newer one I'm not yet sure about. On a cold day I might even wear two which is why on a five day trip I'm pretty sure I'm going to need all four.

Merry Christmas all --- Hug and kiss the ones you are with!
